Joseph Melion, age 78, of Hammond passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Ann (nee, Abston) Melion;
two sons, Michael J. Melion and Anthony J. Melion;
2 brothers, Walter Melion and Clarence (Wanda) Melion;
1 sister, Mary Sue Stinson;
several nieces and nephews, including 2 special nieces, Nicole "Baby Girl" and Jasmyne "Peanut", who were the "light of his life" and special friends, Raymond and Debbie Lacko.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Melion, brother, Raymond Melion and sister, Martha Melion.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) . Burial will at follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, April 30th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.
Joe was a longtime resident of the Calumet Area. He was a proud U. S. Army veteran who served his country during the Korean Conflict. Joe retired from Inland Steel in 1989 having worked as a millwright for over 34 years and was a member of the U.S. Steelworkers local. "Indian Joe", as he was affectionately called by his family and friends was a loving husband, father and a dear friend to many.
