Karen Virginia Griffin, age 73 of Hammond, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Wednesday March 2, 2016. She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years Gerald Ray Griffin; five children: Carrie (David) Griffin-Boyd, Shane (Cheryl) Wilson-Griffin, Shawn Griffin and Katie (Linas) Smulkstys; two Grandchildren: Duncan Boyd and Jonas Smulkstys; siblings: Terry Reynolds and Debbiejo Murphy; several nieces, nephews and friends.  Preceded in death by her parents: Floyd and Virginia Reynolds; her beloved son: Jimmy Griffin; siblings: James, Richard, Ronnie and Janet Reynolds.                          Funeral service will be held on Saturday March 5, 2016 at 10.00 am at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Marjorie Kunch, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home on Friday March 4, 2016  from 4pm until 8pm.

Karen was born and raised in Hammond. She was a 1961 graduate of Morton High School. She was retired from Hammond City Schools as a Crossing Guard. Karen enjoyed playing Bingo, reading novels and baking cookies and pumpkin bread for her children and grandchildren, which were the center of her life. She was an animal lover and Cubs fan. Karen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and lifelong friend to many and will be deeply missed.
