Kathryn "Kay" Kwiatkowski, age 97, of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with loved ones by her side on Wednesday August, 28, 2024.

She is survived by her son: Joseph Kevin Kwiatkowski; grandchildren: Allison (Stephen Miller) Kwiatkowski, Matt (Sarah) Kwiatkowski and Kelli (Danny) Embry; great-grandchildren: Joshua and Bradley Case, Norah Kwiatkowski and Amelia, Vivian and Ellis Embry; brother in-law, Joseph Steinbach and sister in-law, Helen Kwiatkowski as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband of 47 years: Joseph B. Kwiatkowski; parents: John and Margaret Gay; siblings: June (Pete) Smith, John Gay, Deana (Floyd) Castor, Gloria Steinbach.

Kathryn was born on November 21, 1926, to John and Margaret (Davidson) Gay in Albia, IA. After graduating from high school in 1944 she moved to Gary, Indiana, for better job opportunities. Kay met her husband, Joseph Kwiatkowski, while they were both working at Inland Steel in East Chicago. They married on March 29, 1948, in East Chicago. They were blessed with one son after Kay suffered numerous miscarriages. Kay was a loving and opinionated woman. She emulated the strength and thriftiness that came from being raised during the great depression. A faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for over 70 years. She worked hard all of her life, a 6th district councilwoman, former president of woman's auxiliary post 232 and most notably as an Avon lady for over 35 years. With Avon she was repeatedly in the top sales of her region and won numerous awards.

Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hammond, IN 46323. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing from 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 7132 Arizona Ave. Hammond with Father Charles Mosley, celebrant. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville.
