Kenneth "Tony" Smith, age 37 of Hammond, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
He is survived by his parents, Andrew Harold Smith, Sr. and Jewel Boyer; 3 brothers: Andrew Smith, Jr., Stephen Smith and Jeffery (Mary) Smith; 3 sisters: Darlene (Bill) Stout, Melissa Smith and Cynthia (Jason) Hinojosa;
13 nieces and nephews; 8 great nieces and nephews;
maternal grandmother, Mae Cooper; 3 aunts, 2 uncles and many, many dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, 2 uncles and one aunt.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at11:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Scott Wells
officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, January 16th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Cremation will be private.
Tony was born on April 4, 1974 in East Chicago and has lived in the Hessville section of Hammond his entire life. He is a 1993 graduate of Morton High School and earned an associate degree from Purdue Calumet in business marketing management. He attended the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church. Tony was the NW IN poster boy for Muscular Dystrophy, lifetime honorary member of IN National Guard, lifetime honorary US Air Force recruiter, chosen as a Page for the IN General Assembly, past commissioner of the "Commission for the Disabled" for the city of Hammond. His role as commissioner was listed in the Indiana History Book of Records. Tony was an avid "Colts" fan, he enjoyed working on his computer that he built himself on his 46" screen TV.
