Leonard A. Lelito, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2014.
He is survived by his six children: Marilyn (Jack) Murzyn, Dan (Susan) Lelito, Jim (Debbie) Lelito, Joan (Joe) Kelly, Kenneth (Karen) Lelito and Scott (Anne) Lelito, twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren, one sister; Helen (late John) Shebesh, one brother; Edmund (Gerri) Lelito, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve in 2007; parents Edward and Sophie Lelito; one grandchild Margaret Lelito.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Ave., Hammond with Father Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation at the Church on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Leonard was born on August 11,1925 in Hammond and graduated from George Rogers Clark High School in 1943. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served our country during WWII. He went on to work at Inland Steel for 40 years retiring as an electrical supervisor in field forces in 1985.
Leonard was a faithful member of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was involved in many volunteer activities including the The Knights Of Columbus, St Alfred Council 4933 and Abraham Lincoln Assembly for many years. He was a past Grand Knight, and Past Faithful Navigator. He was a member of Council 16008 in Highland. Leonard was a loving husband, father, grand father and great grand father who enjoyed a good laugh and a cold beer. He will be missed by all who came in contact with him. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Vincent de Paul.
