Lucille Sutherland (Nee Emerson)

May 23, 1928 - January 14, 2024

Lucille Sutherland (Nee Emerson), age 95, formerly of Hammond, IN passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Brickyard Nursing Home in Portage, Indiana.

Lucille was born May 23, 1928, in Caldwell, TX to William Emerson and Nannie Lee (Vaughn) of McDade, TX.  Lucille worked with the Indiana Department of Family Services for 25 years as a case manager.

She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Fortino (Frank) of Lowell, IN and Catherine "Kathie" Wolters (Bob) of Portage, IN.  Her 9 Grandchildren Lisa, Tony, Georgette, Jason, George, Renee, Jennifer, Justin, and Jordan. She is also survived by her 32 Great Grandchildren Danielle, Amy, Anthony, Kenneth, Jordan, Jacob, Keara, Mason, Taylor, Seth, Alaina, Paige, Aiden, Abigail, Dayton, Damian, Breanna, Ceinna, Maddux, Dakota, Dallas, Madison, Jasper, Logan, Trenton, Josephine, Gryffin, Adasandra, Ayrabella, Alizabeth, Averlee, Amelia, and 7 Great Great Grandchildren;  Mikayla, Joseph, Connor, Caleb, Cailey, Freya, and Ellis.

Her Brother Richard Emerson and Sister Juanita Rice, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Orland Emerson, Claude Emerson, Carroll Emerson, Floyd  Emerson; sister Minnie Lee Farris. Daughter Sandra Elliott, Former spouse Robert Sutherland & Life Partner Miguel Vargas, and companion Summer "Baby".

Services are being held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave, Hammond, IN 46323.

Visitation from 10 AM- 12 PM followed by funeral service at 12 PM. She will be laid to rest at St John/St Joseph Cemetery, 1547 167th St, Hammond, IN 46320.
