Lucy DeVries, age 71, of Hobart passed from this life on Monday, January 15, 2024, at her residence.

She is survived by her brother, Joe (Mary) Martinez of Florissant, Mo; sister, Margaret (Charles) Dark of Hammond; niece Teresa (Jacob) Stein and nephew, Tony Nelson of North Carolina

Preceded in death by her parents, Ventura and Maria Martinez; husband, Robert Gates; sister, Elizabeth (Tom) Nelson; brothers: Johnny R. Martinez, Vincent Martinez, and Antonio Martinez.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Cremation services entrusted to Bocken Funeral Home, Hammond, IN.

Lucy was born on July 18, 1952, in Gary, Indiana to the late Ventura and Maria Martinez. She attended Emerson High School in Gary, IN. Lucy was married to husband Robert Gates and lived in Arizona. She worked at an assisted living facility as a receptionist.
