Malik Raheem Dunlap, age 27, of Hammond, after a courageous lifelong battle with sickle cell disease entered his eternal rest with the Lord, peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025.
He is survived by his father Samuel (Paula) Dunlap; biological parents, Glenda and Gary Adams Riley; siblings: devoted sister, Lace (Joseph) Usselman, Ocean Greenwood, Sharee' (Calise) Dunlap, Samuel Dunlap Jr., Galen Adams, Garlen Adams, GaRee Adams Harper, Garrett Adams; grandmothers: Christine Dunlap and Freida Smith; numerous aunts and uncles including Anna (Garrett) Wright with whom he made his home with before moving with Megan and Lace then on to his own; many cousins and nieces and nephews who he dearly loved, and a multitude of friends and coworkers at Community Hospital.
Preceded in death by his mother, Theta Leceta Starks, grandparents; uncles, Lajuan Starks and William Gaines.
Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Friday August 8, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, (Hessville) IN 46323. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. directly at Fellowship Church- Hammond, formerly Cornerstone Baptist Church and Orchard Drive Baptist Church, 3425 Orchard Drive, Hammond, Hessville with Pastor Joe Best officiating. Private cremation will follow. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
Malik has been a longtime resident of the Calumet Area. He was born in Chicago, grew up in Robbins and Harvey, IL., lived in Griffith then Hammond. He graduated from Bloom Trail High School. Malik is a member of Fellowship Church and loved serving wherever he could. He found his true passion when he began working at Community Hospital in Munster as a patient companion, he would comfort those in need and made a host of friends on the hospital staff. Malik will be remembered for his sense of humor as well, he enjoyed his own Malik speaks talk show, hosted by non-other than himself. A deep void will remain with all who knew and loved him but may comfort be found in the one that Malik has found his healing and rest with Jesus Christ his Savior.
