Margaret Florence Harrison (Bienko), age 84, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2011.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Joan (Tim) Slota of Bloomington, IN;
3 grandchildren, Benjamin (Jenny) Slota of Fishers, IN,
Jason Slota of San Francisco, CA and Megan (Mike) Ripley of Bloomington, IN;
5 great grandchildren, Adam, Owen and Molly Slota, Henry and Jack Ripley;
2 sisters, Dorothy Pritchard and Joan (Mac) Hawes all of England; Sister In Law Wanda Dewes of Idaho.
Several Nieces and Nephews
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Bienko; parents, John Martin and Florence Harrison and one brother, Lawrence Harrison
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church 1115 N. Cline Avenue, Griffith, IN with Father Wally Griesmeyer officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date in England. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, January 28th from 4-8pm at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) and on Saturday from 9.30am until the service at 10am at St. Timothy's.
Margaret was born in Walsall, England and as a war bride moved to Hammond in 1946. She has been a resident of the Hessville section of Hammond since 1952. She has been a faithful and active member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. Margaret was a self taught cake decorator and made wedding cakes for hundreds of people in the community. She was very active at Caldwell School as a room mother and in the P.T.A., holding many offices including President. Her passion was her work at Caldwell School in the cafeteria cooking and baking for the children. Margaret enjoyed traveling to England to visit her relatives and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in Margaret's memory to the St. Timothy Episcopal Church or to the family which will be directed to the Keith Jepsen International Scholarship Fund at the Indiana University, Bloomington,IN.
