Margaret Mika, age 99, of Hammond, formerly of Gary passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
Survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Mika and son,
Richard Mika; grandson, Jeffery Mika, Sr.; granddaughter, Shelley Mika; 2 great grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jr. and Conner Mika; beloved niece, Dorothy (late,Theodore) Bronowski,
nephew, Louis (Lois) Perunko;
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard Mika, Sr.; parents, George and Anna Kotfer;
4 sisters; Mary (John) Martis, Anna (Louis) Perunko, Helen (William) McGivern, Betty Kotfer; 2 brothers: George (Jeanette) Kotfer, Michael Kotfer and Uncle Michael Gazzy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with a time of visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Father Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville
Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Friday, June 19th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, (Hessville).
Margaret was born and raised in Gary and has lived in the Hessville section of Hammond for over 60 years. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Margaret was one of the founding members of St. Catherine of Siena Parish and a member of the Rosary Society. She worked for the School City of Hammond as a cafeteria aid during the 1970's and loved helping the children. Margaret loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed going on the River Boats and played "Bingo" for many years. She crocheted and made many beautiful afghans and still worked crossword puzzles every day. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
