Martha M. Komar, age 91, of Valparaiso, formerly of Hammond passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2011.
She is survived by her 5 children: Frank R. (Jane) Komar of Evansville, IN; Ronald J. Komar of Midland, TX;
Rick (Jean) Komar of East Chicago, IN; James(Yvette) Komar of Schererville and
Mary Ann (Vincent) Thinath of Valparaiso;
8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren;
Numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, of 62 years Frank Komar; daughter, Marcia Komar, parents, Peter and Julia Bastasich, two brothers, Peter and Joseph Bastasich and two sisters, Laura Funcik and Louise Brnich.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 with prayers at 9:30am from Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Rev. Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 2:00pm until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home. The Rosary Society will offer prayers at 3:00 p.m.
Martha was a faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the Rosary Society, St. Vincent of DePaul and a member of Daughters of Isabella . She also was a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen at St. Joseph's Church in Hammond. Martha loved to play Scrabble and enjoyed studying the Bible. Mom always tried to see the good in people and her kindness and calm nature will be dearly missed.
