Mattie Evelyne Rice, age 81, of Munster, formerly of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Friday,

April 4, 2014.

She is survived by 2 children:

Michael (Pat Doyle) Rice,

Sharon (Al) Roman;

8 Grandchildren;

11 great grandchildren;

2 sisters: Bess (Joe) Bouska,

Phyllis (Art) Skinner;

Numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, John A. Rice; son, Roger (Frances) Rice;

parents, James and Edna Theodore; 2 brothers: James and Gus Theodore.

Friends are invited to meet with the family for a memorial visitation on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 10:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held following the visitation at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Jose Burgos officiating. Private burial will be at Oakland Memory Lanes in Dolton, IL. In accordance with her wishes, cremation preceded the visitation.

Eve was a lifetime resident of the Calumet Area.

She retired after 30 years of service for the Hammond Public School System in cafeteria management. Eve was very active and enjoyed socializing with her many friends. For several years she participated in the morning ladies league at Kenwood Lanes. She was an excellent cook and she loved to bake; everything she prepared was delicious. Eve was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
