May 7, 2000 – April 27, 2025
Michael Olateru-Olagbegi Jr., age 24, of Austin, TX, formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, after a courageous battle with Huntington's Disease. He was a beloved son, brother, friend, and a bright light in the lives of all who knew him.
Born on May 7th, 2000, Michael brought joy and energy to the world from the moment he arrived. He had a brilliant mind, a kind heart, and a unique spirit that left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
Michael Jr. was preceded in death by his mother, Julie Olagbegi, and his aunt, April Munsie. He is survived by his father, Michael Olateru-Olagbegi Sr.; his sisters, Alyssa, Olivia, and Summer Olagbegi; his grandmother, Dr. Rose Adesiyan; his grandfather, Rayford Fortenberry; his aunts, Michelle McCarl, Cindy Dewitt, Sharon Dillon, Jumoke and Beatrice Olateru-Olagbegi; his uncles, Steve Adesiyan Terry McCarl, Dele, Lake and Bade Olateru-Olagbegi; and Summer's mother and former stepmother, Ingrid Olagbegi—as well as countless cousins and friends who loved him dearly. His warmth, humor, and compassion will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Michael cherished his early school years at Stonewall Tell Elementary and Sandtown Middle School in Atlanta, GA, later completing middle school at Nichols Middle School in Evanston, IL. He attended Evanston Township High School and graduated from Noblesville High School in Noblesville, IN. Michael proudly earned his degree from Purdue University in 2023 and was a devoted member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Purdue's West Lafayette campus.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, from 4–6 PM at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hammond, Indiana. All who knew and loved him are welcome. Michael Jr. will be laid to rest beside his mother in a private ceremony on May 7th, 2025.
In honor of Michael Jr., the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America at hdsa.org, to help others find hope and healing.
