Nick "Uncle Nick" Sopp
Nick Sopp, age 91, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Nickki (Dan) Evans of Hammond;
1 grandson, Larry Evans; many nieces and nephews, including: Ann Marie (Ed) Donahue, Barbara Golec, Richard Eelman, Donnie Palmer and John Lupo.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Edna L. Sopp; parents, Frank and Mary Sopp; sisters, Margie, Helen, Marie, Jay, Ann and Sue; brothers, John and Mike.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Fred Standridge officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday morning, Jan. 23rd from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m..
Nick was a lifetime resident of Hammond. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during WWII in the France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European Campaigns and received 4 bronze stars. Nick was a member of American Legion Post #232. He retired after working many years from Inland Steel Co.
