Norma Eileen Thatcher, age 89, of Hammond passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.
She is survived by 4 children: Diane (Jeff) Jones of Leo, IN,
Don (Arlene) Thatcher of Lowell, IN,
Carol (Gene) Layton of Martinsville, IL and
Colleen (Tom) Cains of Highland, IN
10 grandchildren: Christine Jones, Greg (Carrie) Jones,
Cheryl Reimud, Russel (Tess) Jones, Angela Berge,
Brent (Bobbi) Layton, Alisha (Jason) Biernbaum,
Ryan, Jason and Shawn Cains;
Great-grandchildren: Emalie, Caitlyn, Brayden Jones,
Andrew, Katie, Austin, Aidan Reimund,
Benjamin, Jacob, Andrew, Isabella Layton,
Lexie and Ezekiel Biernbaum;
Several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard F. Thatcher; daughter, Maureen McDonald; grandsons, Mitchell and Lance McDonald; parents, Ernest and Minnie Buckner; sisters: June Buckner, Jewel Mefford, Elizabeth Anderson, Pauline Dix and Frances Gower.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with John Brewer, Minister officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday, Feb. 2nd from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Norma will be taken to Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, IL for visitation on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Prust-Hosch Funeral Home with Bill White, Minister officiating. Burial will follow at Bailiff Cemetery, West Union, IL.
Norma was born and raised in Hutsonville, IL and has lived in the Hessville section of Hammond for over 50 years. She has been a faithful member of Hammond Church of Christ. Norma loved playing games with her grandchildren, working on her family ancestry and reading her Bible. Norma was a thoughtful, kind and generous person who was much loved and will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends.
