Paul L. Shearer Sr., age 88, of Hammond entered into the gates of Heaven on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
He is survived by three children; Carol (Rex) Burton, LaVonna (Frank) Borroel and Paul L. (Cathy) Shearer Jr.;
Seven grandchildren: Michelle Burton, Heather Burton, Jennifer (Michael) DiPasquo, Franchesca (Geoff) Pramuk, Tony Hawley, Tracy Shearer and Stacy (Wes) Knight;
six great grandchildren: Emma and Ean DiPasquo, Phoebe Pramuk, Kylie, Avery and Brody Knight;
Brother-in-law, Richard (Rita) Truex;
Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Betty J. Shearer in 2003; granddaughter, Kelly Nicole Shearer; parents, Paul and Phoebe Shearer; brother, James Ervin Shearer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Noon from Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Rev. James Swanson and Rev. Roger Storms officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, October 23rd at Bocken Funeral Home, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m.
Paul was born in 1925 in Scottsburg, IN and has lived in Hammond for over 81 years, he is a graduate of Hammond Tech High School, class of 1943. Paul proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Marine Corp. as a Aircraft Mechanic, and he participated in the Okinawa Campaign in the Third Fleet Operation: in air operations against the Japanese Empire. Paul retired from Webb Ford as a Mechanic in 1991 after 19 years. He loved fishing and had a passion for woodcarving. Paul was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church for the past 52 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather that will be dearly missed.
