Paul J."PJ" Stultz, age 88, A U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WWII, of Hammond, IN passed away February 13, 2014. Beloved husband for 65 years to Beula Stultz,(Nee Pippenger), devoted father to Carl Stultz, Thomas (Beth) Stultz, and daughter Dorothy (Jim) Hamilton. Loving grandfather to Carol (Jeff) Dixon, Steven (Traci) Stultz, Laura (Chris) Fisher, Jennifer (David) Sheridan, Melissa (Jon) Knowlton, and Catherine Stultz. Proud great-grandfather to Nathan Fisher, Paige Fisher, Jordan Dixon, Jillian Dixon, Juliette Dixon, Jake Stultz, Bailey Stultz, Logan Stultz, Colton Sheridan, Landon Sheridan, Connor Knowlton, Parker Knowlton, Wyatt Knowlton, Gracie Knowlton. Preceded in death by parents Fred and Mary (Downs) Stultz , siblings Lawrence (Eileen ) and Fred (Jean) Stultz, Helen (George) Weigert , Blanche Stultz, and Maude (Elmer) Boroczk.
At age 17, he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII for which he was he was awarded the American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and Navy Occupation Service Medals. He served on the destroyer ship McDermut in the Pacific Ocean where he took part in the great battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, the battle of Okinawa and many other operations. After 42 years "PJ" retired from IHB Railroad where he worked as a freight locomotive engineer and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Union. Paul enjoyed playing cards, reading, and golf. He was dedicated to his family and as such will be missed by them very much.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, (Hessville) IN 46323 from 9:00am until the time of the Memorial Service at 10:00 AM.
