Philomena Sickles, age 89 of Hammond, entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, October 6, 2011.

She is survived by her son, Donald (Sylvia) Sickles of Hobart;

daughter, Rebecca (Michael) Lively of Hammond;

5 grandchildren: Donald (Marlyna) Sickles, Jr., Derek Sickles, David (Michelle) Sickles, Nicholas and Megan Lively;

4 great grandchildren: Anthony, Ava, Maddisyn and Dylan Sickles;

5 sisters: Theresa Rachkowski, Jean Smyden, Mary Lou Schriver, Beverly Queeney and Barbara Antal;

2 brothers: Louis Martone and Frank Martone, Jr.;

many nieces and nephews;

dear comfort givers and companions: Judy, Jeannie and Joanne.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Franklin "Hammer" Sickles; great granddaughter, Alexis Kimberly Sickles; parents, Francisco and Antoinette Martone; brother, Joseph Martone and sister, Rosemary Sickles.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6709 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor James A. Thomson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, October 9th at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville), from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a time of viewing at the church on Monday morning from 9:15 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m.

Philomena has been a resident of Hammond for over 61 years. A faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1954, also a member of the "Hour of Power" prayer group, Leah Circle, Loyal Philathea Class and was a member and past chairperson of the Benevolence Committee.

Philomena loved to sew and was an outstanding cook. She retired from the School City of Hammond after working for over 20 years in food service. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and a dear friend to many. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Calumet.
