Phyllis Jean Newman age 83, of Hessville passed away suddenly on Friday, October 7, 2011 after a brief illness.
She is survived by her 4 loving children:
Jeff (Lana) Newman of Calumet City, IL
Pamela (Richard) Henry of Hammond
Debbie (Brian) Conner of Hammond
Richard Newman of Hammond
9 grandchildren:
7 soon to be 9 great grandchildren:
1 sister Judy (Donald) Hudkins of Westville, IN
1 sister in law Ardeth McCallister of Hammond, IN
Several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 17 sweet years Richard L. Newman in 1965; parents, Arthur and Lucille Villadsen and 1 sister Lois Hilbrich.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 11 , 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Eric Kleinschmidt officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home on Monday, October 10,2011 from 2-4 & 6-8pm.
Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Hammond and a long time member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she was part of the flower committee and altar Guild. She most recently has been attending Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Phyllis was retired from school city of Hammond where she worked her way up to Cafeteria manager during her 27 years of service at Morton High School Cafeteria. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, doing jig saw puzzles and hanging out with her family. Phyllis was a loving and compassionate care giver, Mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed.
