Obituary


Raymond S. Szot, 82, a lifelong resident of Hammond/Hessville,Indiana, left this world to begin a new journey with Jesus on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Felicia D. (Kaleta) Szot, who passed away June 19, 2007.  Ray looked forward with great anticipation to the moment he would be reunited with her in the presence of our Lord.

Raymond is the loving father of one son, Lawrence (Patricia Barley) Szot of Twin Falls , ID ; two daughters, Lynette (Kenneth) Haluska of Crown Point , IN ; and Terri Szot Chance, with whom he resided.  Ray was blessed with ten grandchildren, Anthony (Dawn Galusha) Szot, of Great Bend, KA ; Andrea (Paul) Hughes, of Claremore, OK; Shawn (Madelyn) Szot, of Milwaukee, WI ; Ken (Cathy) Haluska, of Hobart, IN; Kristina (Billie) Nelson, of Crown Point, IN; Jennifer (Richard) Staciwa, of Schererville, IN ; Jonathan (Kate Delaney) Chance, Jeremy Chance, Brian Chance and Kelsey Chance, all of Hammond.  Papa is also the great-grandfather of thirteen.  Ray is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Adele (late Edward) Lis of Calumet City , II ; Fabby Jones of Valparaiso , IN ; one brother-in-law, Eugene (late Virginia) Kendrick, of Highland, IN and many nieces and nephews.  Ray was preceded in death by great granddaughter, Jacklyn Duran, as well as his parents, siblings and other loved ones.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 with prayers at Bocken Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond/Hessville with Rev. Charles Mosley celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, November 19, 2010 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond/Hessville from 4 until 8 p.m.

Ray was retired from Caine Steel but also was employed during his life at Union Car Tank, Graver Tank, and Allied Structural Steel .

Next to his family, Ray's two greatest loves were the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame.  This love sparked numerous family 'discussions' which will be treasured by his family and friends for always.  Ray was an incredible role model who has touched so many lives during his walk on this earth.  He will be sadly missed by anyone who was blessed to know him.
