Richard A. Young, age 86, of Hammond, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, September 11, 2023.

He is survived by two daughters: Patricia Ellen (Shawn) Mowry and Diane Sue Sullivan; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Paula) Young several nieces; nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Viola Isabel Young, parents, Paul and Dorothy Horr;  and one brother, Douglas Orr.

A funeral service for Richard Young will be held at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323 on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Steffan officiating. Private burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Richard was born in Hammond and was a lifetime resident of the region. He was retired from LTV Steel after over 40 years. He enjoyed restoring and driving his 1966 Ford Mustang. Richard had attended First Baptist Church and had driven for the bus ministry. He and Viola were also long-time faithful members of Hessville Baptist Church.  Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather, and friend. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's research.
