Robert Joseph Smith Sr., age 88, of Merrillville entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 7, 2025.
He is survived by his four children: Lisa Lynn (Bill) Smith-Moran, Debbie (Charles) Elam, Robert J. Smith Jr. and Scott (Michelle) Smith; nine grandchildren: Amanda Lynn, Ashley, Tommy, Andrew, Nick, McKenna, DeDe, Christopher and Maya; eleven great-grandchildren: Raeanna Lynn, Landon, Trevor, Aria, Vivian, Noah, Lucas, Leah, Masen, Austin and Elysia; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Wilma L. Smith (nee Montgomery) his parents: Thomas Smith and Cecil Murray; six brothers and three sisters; grandson, Ryan Smith.
Cremation and private family memorial service has taken place in accordance with Bob's wishes. Bocken Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
Bob was born and raised in Watertown, South Dakota. He moved up North to Merrillville and soon married the love of her life Wilma L. Montgomery in 1959. Where Bob and Wilma raised their family and have spent the past 65 years. Bob was a proud Korean War veteran having served on the USS Rich Destroyer. He was retired from Western & Southern Life Insurance Company as a sales agent. He enjoyed golfing, watching all sports and was a Chicago Cubs fan. Bob was an avid crossword puzzle solver and was known as Crossword man. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa who will be dearly missed.
