Ronald "Sonny" Thornton Shindle, age 72, of Demotte, formerly of Hammond, entered into the gates of heaven on Saturday, April 11, 2014.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty J. Shindle (nee, Daugherty);

3 children: Mark (Michele) Shindle, Tracy (John) Cwiklinski, Kelly (Godofredo) DeJesus;

5 grandchildren: David (Danielle) Shindle, Cody, Ethan, Larry (fiancé, Vanessa) Shindle, Kayla Doughman;

2 great grandchildren: David and Jacob Shindle;

1 sister-in-law, Aunt Pat (Uncle Pat) Higgins; daughter-in-law Linda Kruhaj;

Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceded in death by his son, David Shindle; daughter-in-law, Becky Shindle; parents, and mother and father-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2014 at

10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Dan Nichols, minister officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.

Sonny was born and raised in Hammond and was a graduate of Hammond Tech High School, class of 1960. He was a 50 year member of Operating Engineer's Local #150. Sonny was a 32nd degree mason, member of F&AM Garfield Lodge #569, and member of Scottish Rite Consistory. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his "Friday Night Poker".

Sonny was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
