Roy George Smith

May 24, 1946 – April 21, 2025

Roy George Smith, age 78, of Hammond entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 21, 2025.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Susan Faye Smith (nee Pringle); four children: James (Tracey) Smith, Cheryl Smith, Benjamin Rhea, and Michelle (Ronald) Herrell; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Elizabeth Smith (nee Stewart), his parents, Everett and Hazel Smith, and seven siblings.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, directly at New Life Christian Reformed Church, 3010 Ridge Road, Highland, IN 46322. Friends are invited to meet with the family from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Cedric Parsels officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Brook, Indiana, at 2:00 p.m.

Roy was born and raised in Hammond. He was a proud Navy veteran, having served on the USS Bigelow. Roy was retired from Inland Steel as a pipefitter/welder. He enjoyed fishing, taking walks with Sue, and listening to audio books. Roy was a faithful member of New Life Christian Reformed Church. He was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, he loved the Lord and spending time with his family. Roy was a loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, who will be dearly missed.
