Ruth Arlene Carman, age 76, of Hammond, passed away peacefully at her home while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 13, 2014.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Kenneth R. Carman

4 children: Laurie Zart,

Martha (Hector) Rivera,

Monica (Neil) Welch,

Robert (Kimberly) Carman;

9 Grandchildren: Michael, Aaron, Joshua, Cassandra, Christopher, Blake, Tyler, Seth and Connor;

3 great grandchildren;

4 sisters: Janet, Judy, Gerry and Carol;

3 brothers: Jim, Tom and Joe;

Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Marian Jenkins; brothers, Bill and Richard; sister, Diane;

son-in-law, Scott Zart

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Robert Carman officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, March 17, 2014 for a time of visitation at Bocken Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Ruth was born and raised in Hammond and was a 1956 graduate of Hammond Tech High School. She has been a faithful member of Hammond First Baptist Church since age 12, and was a member of the Friendship Class. Ruth worked for Wiseway as a clerk for over 14 years. She enjoyed knitting, canning, working in her yard and gardening.

Ruth was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and sister who will be dearly missed.
