Salvador Martinez, age 81, of Hammond passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Hermelinda Martinez (Nee Melgoza); four children: Sandy (Chris) Flores, Leo (Patty) Martinez, Salvador (Dulce) Martinez and Ana (Ruben) Sanchez; daughter-in-law, Eloisa Martinez; 17 Grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several siblings both here and in Mexico and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Jose "Carlos" Martinez.

Friends and family are invited for a visitation on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Bocken Funeral 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hammond, IN 46323. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 DIRECTLY at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 7113 Columbia Avenue, Hammond, IN 46324 with viewing from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stanley Dominik, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond, Face mask and social distance guidelines will be required for attendance.

Salvador was born and raised in Michoacán, Mexico. He settled in Hammond to work at the steel mills. He is retired from American Steel. Sal enjoyed watching the Cubs baseball games and helping his children and grandchildren with their grilling and gardening. He was wonderful provider and hard worker.
