Samuel V. Kerr, age 88, of Hammond, entered into eternal life on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen (nee, Helfen) Kerr; 6 children: Diane Kerr, Vincent (Denise) Kerr, Mary (James) Thomas, Patrick Kerr, Jeanette Whitworth, Lester (Joann) Kerr; 6 grandchildren: Amy (Arthur) Wright, Rachael Whitworth, Karin (Brian) Hargrove, Lisa (Cory) Dehnart, Samuel J. and Steven J. Kerr; 2 great grandchildren: Abigail and Adam Wright;
Brother-in-law, Frank Moricz; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from
1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Private family services will be held on Thursday, April 21st at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.
Samuel was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and has lived in the Calumet Area for over 60 years. Sam was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served his country during WWII. He fought in both the Asiatic Pacific and American Theatre Campaigns. He was a member of American Legion Post #232 and the Inland Steel Club. He retired after 37 years at Inland Steel Co. in East Chicago. Sam was an avid bowler, master carpenter and Chicago White Sox fan; with a "pick to click" for each game. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and very involved in Hessville Little League. He loved going to "Flea Markets" and his CRV stopped at all Yard Sales. Sam was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
