Shirley JoAnn Elkins, age 73, of Munster, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Leonard Elkins, three children: Robert "Rod" Elkins, Cynthia Evanich, and Scott (Kathy) Elkins; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two brothers: Richard (Janet) Griffith and Ronald (Linda) Griffith; one sister, Bette (Rich) Black, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her companion cats, Snowflake and Stripes.

Preceded in death by her parents; Hiram and Evelyn Griffith, beloved son, Leonard Jo Elkins; two sisters: Wanda Becker and Margaret Kuzdrowski; one brother, Jim Griffith.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Starkey officiating. Interment private. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville).

Shirley was lifetime resident of the area.  Her hobbies included sewing and crafting and she loved the outdoors, fishing and time spent with family at the campground. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.
