Steven H. Budnik, 92, of Hammond passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
Steven was survived by 3 daughters: Eva Lawrence,
Laura Bohannon and Ruth (Manolis) Mamouzelos;
Grandchildren: Hollie (Gabe) Sanchez, Mary (Chris) Anders, Eugene Bohannon, Jr., Alexia and Gabriella Mamouzelos and Summer Lawrence;
former wife, Doris Biller;
numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews;
his loyal canine companion, "Sammi".
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Eva Budnyk; 2 sisters, Mary and Anne; 3 brothers, Paul, Michael and Andrew.
Steve was born and raised in the Indiana Harbor section of East Chicago and was a 1940 graduate of East Chicago Washington High School. He has lived in Hammond for the past 40 years. Steve
was an optician , he owned and operated the Unique Eyeware Shop in Calumet City, IL for many years before his retirement.
A Home Going Celebration for Steven Budnik will be held on Friday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). A time of visitation with the family will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.
Affectionately known as "Hollywood Steve", he was an avid photographer whose favorite subjects included local events, classic cars, nature and "eye-catching" people. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Ukranian National Association. Steve was a lover of music and he greatly enjoyed conversations over cocktails. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all.
