Sylvia Perez, (nee, Garnett), age 77, of East Chicago, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

She is survived by six children: Debra (Jesse) Garcia, Denise (late, Ray) Ayala, Cynthia Perez, Norma (Jimmy) Laposi, Veronica (Joe) Recio and Joseph (Jennifer) Perez, III. Grandmother of ten and great grandmother of sixteen.

Siblings: Joe (late, Linda) Garnett, Norma (Rene) Alamillo, Romeo (Ursula) Garnett, Sandra (late, Richard) Strong; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Carmen Garnett, her significant other and love, Frank Munoz; two grandchildren, Eddie William Pena, Jr. and Pete "PJ" Santos, Jr., son-in-law, Ray Ayala.

Chiva was a lifetime resident of East Chicago and attended St. Stanislaus Church and Our lady of Guadalupe Church. She worked for the City of East Chicago as a Clerk. Chiva loved to cook and was the glue that held her family together, she had an open door policy to everyone and everyone who entered was treated as family. She was an avid Chicago Bulls, Bears and Cubs fan.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 Directly at St. Stanislaus Church, 808 W. 150th St., East Chicago at 6:00 p.m. with Msgr. John Siekierski celebrant. A time of visitation with the family will be from 3:30 p.m. until the mass at 6:00 p.m. at the church.
