Thomas S. Bennett, age 93, of Highland, formerly of Hessville, went home to Heaven on Tuesday, February 3, 2015.
Survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Girlis Bennett;
2 daughters: Cassy and Jerrel Franklin
Ann and Terry Duff;
5 grandchildren: Jay (Annette), Joel (Jackie) and Jim Franklin,
Mindy (Charlie) Rousey and Mark (Priscilla) Duff;
6 great grandchildren: Annagail, Autumn and Audrey Rousey,
Meghan, Jacob and Michael Duff;
1 brother, Dennis Bennett;
1 sister, Joyce DeLong;
Many nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mable Bennett; 3 sisters: Freda Kincade, Violet Ferguson and Marie Van Gilder; one brother, Rubert Bennett. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. directly at Jack Hyles Memorial Auditorium, 523 Sibley, Hammond with Pastor Mark Duff officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park in Crown Point. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation at the church on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Tom has been a resident of the Calumet Area since 1955 and a faithful member of First Baptist Church since 1962. He was a Tour Guide at the church, a Greeter, Usher, taught Sunday School in the 4th grade department, worked church visitation, Nursing Home Ministry and served whenever and wherever he was needed. Tom served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was a driver for General Eisenhower and also fought at Normandy. His passion was cars,fast cars; he loved working on cars and was an excellent mechanic. Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother who will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Calumet.
