Thomas Paul Pauer, age 77, of Hammond entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon Pauer (Nee, Wild);
three children: Cheryl Anne (Michael) O'Connell, Christine Marie Bernotus and Timothy Paul (Sandra) Pauer;
Seven grandchildren: Daniel (Angela) Bernotus, Brenda (Richard) Merschantz, Erica (fiancé W. Alex Smith) Pauer, John Pauer, Rachel Pauer, Julia O'Connell and Andrew O'Connell:
two great grandchildren; Landon and Payton Bernotus.
Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and Square dancing friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Regis Pauer; brother, Robert Chapman and sister Rita Arthur.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Christopher McIntire officiating at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Burial of Tom's cremated remains will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.
Tom was born on August 15, 1936 in Chicago, IL and has lived in Hammond for over 54 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in radio communications working as a sonar man. Tom retired from Enbridge Oil as an electrical supervisor in 1997 after 26 years of service. He loved playing Bridge and attending his grandchildren's various activities. He had a passion for Square Dancing and has enjoyed dancing for over 40 years. He was a member the Pollywogs Square Dance Club. Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father and "Poppa" who will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers memorials to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care at: www.vitas.com would be appreciated.
