Thomas E. Somerville age 80, of Hessville passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, June 23, 2025.

He is survived by one brother; James (Robin) Somerville; two nieces, four great nephews and several cousins and many dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Marie Somerville and two sisters: Judith Faitak and Deborah "Debbie" Somerville.

Friends are invited to meet with for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 pm at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323. A memorial service with military honors will take place at 5:00 p.m. A dinner will follow at American Legion Post 232, 6523 Kennedy Ave. Hammond, IN 46323.

Tom was a 1962 graduate of Morton High School and attended Indiana University. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded several medals and citations. Tom went on to work for Ace Hardware for 32 years, retiring as a manager, then he worked 10 years for the Lake County Government as Chief Deputy Assessor. Tom was active in the American Legion Post 168 and Post 232 and the V.F.W. Post 7881. He was elected and served as Indiana State Commander of the American Legion from 2007-2008. When he was not busy serving, he enjoyed playing golf and listening to Frank Sinatra music. Tom was most proud of his participation in the laying of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.
