Thomas L. Szymaszek, age 68, of Hammond passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Claudia (nee, Imbiorski)

3 Children: Michael (Janet) Szymaszek of Hobart

Renae (Kevin) Brumfield of Crown Point

Mark (Angie) Szymaszek of Hobart

3 Grandchildren: Jacob, Justine and Janelle Brumfield

2 Brothers: Richard ( Virginia ) Szymaszek of Lowell

Joseph (Sandra) Szymaszek of Bridgeton , IN

Mother-in-law: Virginia Imbiorski of Michigan City

Sister-in-law: Sandra (Reggie) Czizek of Michigan City

Preceded in death by his parents; Joseph and Florence Szymaszek, nephew; Kenneth Szymaszek and niece; Kelley Czizek

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 6525 Kentucky, Hammond (Hessville) with Father Larry Kew celebrant. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue , Hammond (Hessville) from 2 until 8 p.m.

Tom was born on July 4, 1941 in East Chicago and was a graduate of Hammond Tech High School . On Oct. 6, 1962

he married his sweetheart, Claudia (nee, Imbiorski) and they made their home in the Hessville section of Hammond . He was a faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena Church . Tom retired from Midwest Steel Division of National Steel where he worked for 35 years as a steel coil wrapper. Tom was an avid sportsman who had a passion for duck and goose hunting, and was well known for his walleye fishing at Lake Erie . He was a member of the Lake County Fish and Game Protective Assoc. for over 40 years, and was recently a recipient of their Life Membership Award for his active participation. Tom was a loving husband and father and a devoted grandfather. He leaves behind many dear friends.
