Tony V. Simchak, age 88, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Ann P. Simchak; three children: David (Karen) Simchak, Linda Cise, Dr. A. Charles (Joyce) Simchak; six grandchildren: John (Andrea) Cise, Nicole (fiancée Jace) Simchak, Paul (Courtney) Cise, Anne Marie Cise, Sarah (fiancée Coty) Simchak, Amanda Simchak; three sisters in law: Ann (late Charles) Greskovich, Margaret (late Andrew) Lucas, Marian (late Al) Bugajski and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Stella Simchak; siblings: Bernice (Harry) Nowicki, Raymond (Helen) Simchak and Virginia (Walter) Walborn.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Directly at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 6605 Kentucky Ave. Hammond (Hessville) with Father Larry Kew celebrant. Private cremation will follow. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be a time of viewing at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Tony was born and raised in Whiting; he was a 1944 graduate of Whiting High School. Tony served our country during WWII in the U.S. Navy, after which he became a barber. Tony was former owner of the Kenwood barbershop in Hessville then went on to become a barber instructor for the State of Indiana. He was a faithful, devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1700, and American Legion Post 369. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and dear friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. "We will miss those eyes that always looked at us with love".
