Valerie Joan Kondra, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Valerie was born in Hammond, IN on August 9,1927 to the late John and Valerie (nee Krysinski) Maka. She married John R. Kondra on May 28,1949 and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2014. She is survived by her loving son; Jeffrey J. Kondra, grandson; John J. Kondra, and one brother Thaddeus (Patricia) Maka and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wanda (Ed) Michalski and Chestine (Andrew) Golarz.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2015 with a Mass of Christian burial at 12:00 p.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7132 Arizona Ave., Hammond with Father Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation at the Church on Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
Valerie was graduated from St. Mary's Grade School and Hammond High School. She then was employed by Minas Co. in sales, then as a secretary for the Hammond Credit Bureau. When she became a homemaker she donated her time, joining the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and was treasurer for the Auxiliary Fire Dept. 532. Valerie was a member of the Polish Women's Alliance Lodge #128 and was very proud of her Polish Heritage. Valerie loved crocheting, knitting and learning new stitching with her friend Irene. She made sure each new baby in the family received a hand made crochet blanket to keep warm. Val was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
