Vincent F. Kolish, Jr., age 88, of Hammond, was ushered into the arms of God on Sunday, June 21, 2015.
He is survived by his children: Debbie (Jim) Tuttle,
Judy (Ernest) Gonzalez,
Richard (Connie) Kolish
Robert (Lori) Kolish
Steven Kolish;
Daughter-in-law, Barb Teal
18 grandchidren;
29 great grandchildren;
1 great great grandchild;
brother-in-law, Robert Shoue;
several nieces, nephews, cousins and large extended family.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty M. Kolish; 2 sons, Thomas and John Kolish; daughter-in-law, Sheila Kolish; parents, Vincent and Anna Kolish and one sister, Marianne Topp.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., with viewing from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Father Charles Mosley, celebrant. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, June 23rd at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 2:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. There will be a time of viewing on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the mass at 10:00 a.m.
Vincent was born and raised in Gary and has lived in the Hammond area over 60 years. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Vincent was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during WW II. A member of American Legion Post #232, whose members will conduct a service on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. He was a member of VFW and the Bricklayer's Union. After working over 40 years as a brickmason he retired in 1986 from Inland Steel Co., and was a member of the Inland Steel 25 year club. Vincent liked to travel with his wife and enjoyed camping with his family and friends. He watched Nascar and Indy Racing, and was a devoted fan of General Hospital, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and the "Weather Channel". He truly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and especially his little great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all and never forgotten by anyone whos' lives he touched. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Calumet.
