Viola Isabel Young, age 79, of Hammond, entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

She is survived her loving husband of 63 years, Richard Young; two daughters: Patricia Ellen (Shawn) Mowry and Diane Sue Sullivan; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers; sisters; nieces; nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert Nesmith and Julia Dukes;  one brother and one sister.

A funeral service for Viola Young will be held at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323 on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Hannon officiating, current Covid-19 restrictions and social distancing must be observed. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Viola was born in Davis County, Kentucky but was a longtime resident of Northwest, Indiana. She loved children and spending time with her family. She also really enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She worked at City Baptist School where she taught the deaf children  from 1975 to 1985 and then became secretary until her retirement. Singing was one of her favorite things to do. She and Richard are long time faithful members of Hessville Baptist Church.  Viola was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother and friend. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Alzheimer's  research.
