Walter Gene Alexander, age 88, of Hammond, joined his wife in heaven on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
He is survived by his children: Bruce (Dawn) Alexander and Linda (Michael) Allen;

6 grandchildren: Amy Rae, Jason (Shawn) Alexander, Jodi Allen, Rebecca (Steve) Anthony, Daniel (Crystal) Alexander, Alison Alexander; 8 great grandchildren: Kyle, Devin, Riley, Shane, Alexandra, Aiden, Jacob and Christopher;brother, Gerald (Joyce) Alexander; sister, Mary Alexander; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Dorothy "Dot" Alexander; parents, Thomas and Eva Alexander; 2 sisters: Dixie Helton and Shirley McCabe; brother, George Alexander and his dog, Freddie.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond  (Hessville).

Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.  Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Sunday, July 19th at Bocken Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Wally was a lifetime resident of Hammond. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the Hessville V.F.W. Post #7881. Wally was a member of McKinley Lodge #712 F&A.M., having achieved lifetime status. Lodge members will hold a service on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. Wally was a member of the Shriner's Orak Temple. He retired from L.T.V. Steel after 32 years and enjoyed 26 years of retirement. Wally was a hard worker but he also knew how to relax and enjoyed telling a good joke or story. Wally was a Chicago Blackhawks and Cubs fan. Affectionately known as Fritz, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother uncle and friend.
