William A. Carter, Jr., age 74, of Munster, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 17, 2014.
He was born Sept. 17, 1939, in Gary, Indiana and graduated from Wirt High School in 1957. He received a chemical engineering degree from Rose Polytechnic Institute in 1961. After graduation he proudly began his 37 ½ year career at Inland Steel, working mainly in the Research and Pollution Control Departments. He also earned a masters degree in engineering from Purdue Calumet.
Bill was a member of Ridge United Methodist Church, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Munster Lions, and N.W. Indiana Woodworkers Association. His hobbies included woodworking, clocks, fishing, and cheering on Chicago sports teams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Carter;
Children: Andrew (fiancée Gabriela Saenz) Carter of Glen Ellyn, IL; Lynne (Jeffrey) Thoman of Portage, MI ;
Grandchildren: Zach, Nathan, Max, Jenna, and Marielle
Brother: J. Bryan (Carolyn) Carter of Memphis, TN
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Lou Carter
A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 11:00 a.m. at Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Avenue, Munster. Friends may visit with the family at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Ridge United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
