Willie D. Westmoreland, beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, Bishop, and friend, passed into the arms of Jesus on July 4, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on February 3, 1947, Willie’s life was a testament to enduring love, service, laughter, and unwavering faith.

Throughout his life, Willie left a deep imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him. The son of Vernon and Louise Westmoreland (Rodgers), Willie grew up in a large and loving family, embracing the values of hard work and compassion that would become the pillars of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon & Louise, as well as his siblings: brothers Vernon, Jack, Joe, Aaron "Rusty", Jim, and Frank Westmoreland, and sisters Joyce (Trinkosky), Lou (Stavanau), and Judy (Longmeire).

Willie’s greatest joy was found in his devoted family. His beloved wife of 63 years, Geraldine, stood by his side, a partnership defined by remarkable devotion and commitment. Together they built a family overflowing with warmth, laughter, and love. Willie’s legacy continues through his children—Kathy and Brian Harper, Richard and Dina Westmoreland, Pam and Scott Galligan, Kristen and Josh Gunter—all of whom made him immensely proud. Willie was also a caring brother to Dorothy "Dot" Cook, Dale Westmoreland, and Alan Westmoreland.

Willie’s work ethic was rooted in family tradition. He spent more than four decades as a sewer inspector and as the owner of Jack and Vernon’s Septic Service—a family business sustained for over fifty-four years. He approached each day of work with great pride, knowing that he was not just sustaining a business, but upholding a legacy.

Willie’s heart also radiated through his kindness, humor, and love for community. As a respected member of Zion Holiness Church, he was much more than a congregant—as a Pastor and Bishop, he was a guiding light. Willie devoted 20 years as an associate pastor, 20 additional years as a pastor, and 15 years as a Bishop at Zion Holiness Church, shepherding generations in faith and fellowship. He ministered with wisdom and was always ready with an open ear, a helping hand, and a joke to lighten the soul.

Those who knew Willie will remember him for his infectious humor and the laughter he brought to every room. A true jokester, he delighted in making others smile and never missed a chance for shared laughter. Willie loved his chocolate milkshakes—a simple enjoyment Papa had with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Some of his favorite moments were spent side by side with his family. He treasured annual hunting trips in Kentucky with the men of the family—a cherished tradition. Garage sales with his wife and daughters were always an adventure, and the time spent working and ministering alongside his son brought him great joy. Willie also had a special affection for eagles, gaining a lovely collection that reflected his admiration for them—a symbol of strength and spirit he embodied throughout his life.

The richness of his life, the depth of his faith, and the boundless nature of his love will be honored in a visitation and service at Zion Holiness Church, 5051 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during the public viewings on Friday, July 10th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 11th, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bishop Dwight Cook.
