Maria O. Sanchez, nee Lopez, age 84, of Hammond, entered into the gates of Heaven on Thursday, February 27, 2020 and was reunited with the husband of 61 years Armando Davila Sanchez.
Together they are survived by seven children: Odessa (George) Garcia, Armando (Lupe) Sanchez Jr., Pete (Juanita) Sanchez, Sandra (Jaime) Jimenez, Thelma Lopez, Nora (Johnny) Best and Art Sanchez; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and friends. They are also reunited with their beloved son Jose Orlando “Landy” Sanchez, three of Maria’s siblings: Victor Lopez, Alma Valdez and Alicia Saldana and 4 of Armando’s siblings: Jose, Pedro, Josefina and Cruz
Maria was born on October 18, 1935 in Pearsall, Texas and has lived in the Hammond area for over 60 years. She was retired from Carson Pirie Scott in Hammond. Maria was a loving and devoted wife, a devoted mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, sister and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and entertaining and feeding her friends her Tex-Mex cooking. Marias favorite things were being a grandma, watching baseball and cheering on the Cubs, “Go Cubbies”.
Armando was born on September 23, 1930 in Cotulla, Texas and has lived in the Hammond area for over 60 years as well. He was retired from American Brick Company in Munster, and Ambrose Landscaping Company in Lansing. Armando was a loving and devoted husband who simply adored his wife, a devoted father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather, brother and friend, who will be missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being a grandpa, watching baseball and football. He cheered on the White Sox and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan his contagious smile and laugh will never be forgotten.
They were joined in matrimony on September 25, 1953 in Cotulla, Texas and most importantly they loved the Lord and leave a legacy of children and grandchildren serving in ministries throughout the region.
