Frank Josway Obituary

Frank Josway 1934 –2023

Frank Josway, 89, of Hammond, passed away after an illness, on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

Born in his family home on April 26, 1934, to Alexander and Anna (Bodie) Josway, he was the youngest of their four children. Frank graduated from Hammond High School, and later took courses at the local Purdue Campus.

Like all of his siblings, Frank served in the Military. He was in the Army from 1956 to 1958, serving the larger part of his tour of duty at Schofield Barracks, on the island of O’ahu, Hawaii.

Frank was well-known for his years of expertise as an Electrical Design Draftsman, contributing to detailed, day to day production, service and maintenance as well as projects, like blast furnaces for local and out of state steel companies. His reputation was built from his passion for quality and accuracy. He worked a combined twenty-nine years for Youngstown andLTV Steel, rounding out his career in consulting firms, ATSI and EQ Engineers.

Throughout his life, Frank helped his community by donating blood to the American Red Cross, and volunteering for church carnivals and school fundraisers. He helped his family, by always being there for them, modeling hard work, dependability, integrity, and consideration for others.

Frank was young at heart and always a dedicated Uncle and Dad for the children in his life.

He spent time with them, playing games, helping them practice their skills in basketball, baseball, and soccer. He attended their games or other activities, like art shows, plays, and musical performances. He enjoyed taking them on outings, like Cub’s baseball games. Frank spent many vacations with his family at Cedar Point in Ohio, where he enjoyed the rides and roller coasters as much as the kids. He was generally quiet, but he had a talent for piping up with unexpected funny quips, or to make a serious point. Over the years, Frank loved to take his wife out to dinner and dance. He read the newspaper and aced the crossword puzzles. As recently as last Summer, in good weather, he loved walking in Wicker Park, enjoying the fresh air.

Frank Josway was a kind and loving man who enriched the lives of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by them all.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Deborah L. (Taylor) Josway.

son; Alexander S. (Sarah) Josway
