Garry L. Belford age 69 of Hammond was welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 7, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family.
Garry is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Belford (nee Walworth); four children: Eric (Heather) Belford, Carrie (Art) Fleming, Jeffrey (Jessica) Belford and Kimberly (Phil) Matanic; thirteen grandchildren: Eric, Matthew, Hunter, Emily, Chloe, Austin, Madison, Trinity, Samantha, Sophia, Ryan, Derrick, and Zane; mother, Pearl Belford; brother, Stanley (Theresa) Belford; sister, Cindy (Kirby) Lyon; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Roy “Salty” Belford.
Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Friday, November 11, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hammond, IN 46323. A funeral service will take place on MONDAY November 14, 2022, DIRECTLY at Calvary Baptist Church 9516 Kennedy Avenue, Highland IN 46322. A visitation will take place at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Rector officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville.
Garry was a lifelong resident of Hammond; he was graduate of Gavit High School Class of 1971. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara A. Walworth then went on to serve our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Upon returning home in 1974 he answered a call to preach the gospel. Garry and Barb served the Lord for many years at Cline Avenue Baptist Church in numerous ministries. Some of the most memorable would be coaching and umpiring the church softball team, volleyball team, leading a nursing home ministry, working with the youth and adult bible studies and VBS Director for over 10 years. Garry was a faithful follower of Jesus, a loving husband and a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family would be appreciated.
