George W. Shropshire, age 77, of Hammond entered the gates of heaven on Christmas Sunday, December 25, 2022.

He is survived by three children: Timothy G. Shropshire, Christopher (Ila) Shropshire, Sherri Nealis; six grandchildren: Robert and Cole Shropshire, Jacob and Kegan Shropshire, Alex Burroughs, and Allyscia Dietz; and great-grandchildren: Lucas Fuson and Myles Shropshire.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Laura Mae Shropshire this past January; his parents, William and Margaret Shropshire; siblings: Lois, Bill and Margaret.

Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, January 4, 2022, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home. 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323.

George was a lifetime resident of the Region. He was a graduate of Hammond Tech 1965. George retired from EJ & E Railroad as a train Master. He was a natural servant, having served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He also served as a Boy Scouts Troop Leader, bowling instructor, softball coach and most recent as Chief of the Hammond EMA. George was a member of the American Legion Post 232 of Hammond whose members will assist with Military Honors at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his life and he was loved by all and will be missed by many.
