HELEN “MARLENE” SVETIC -  ROLLING PRAIRIE/HAMMOND, IN

The family of Helen Marlene Svetic is saddened to announce her passing. Marlene was born on March 23, 1938 in Laporte, Indiana to Eugene and Helen Spence and passed away on March 14, 2020 in South Bend, Indiana at the age 81.  In 2013 she moved to Jupiter, Florida to be closer to and cared for by her son Mike. She was preceded in death by her parents: Eugene and Helen Spence; son, Jeffrey Hutts; husbands: Tommy Hutts and Bill Svetic. Marlene is  survived by husband Richard Hofferth; three sons: Daniel (Lynn) Hutts of Rolling Prairie, IN, Mike (Margaret Campbell) Hutts of Jupiter,  FL and Kevin (Mendy) Hutts of St. John, IN.; fourteen grandchildren;  seven great grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie (Joannie) Spence; two sisters: Janet (Larry) Sonnenberg and Kathy (Craig) Haenes; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Burial will follow at St John Cemetery, Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday morning, March 18, 2020 at Bocken Funeral Home, from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 12 noon.

Marlene was retired from the City of Hammond Environmental Management Department as an inspector after 26 years of service. She was a member of St. Timothy Episcopalian Church in Griffith, IN. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family. “ Mom you will be forever in our hearts, your words and voice forever in our ears, and your virtues forever in our souls.
