Helene Patricia Johnson, age 81, of Hammond passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 11, 2021. 

Helene “Tukey” as she was affectionally known is survived by her three daughters: Debbie Edwards, Sandy (fiancé Jeff Beeson) Cook and Tina Bailey; son in-law, Jeff Welch; eight grandchildren: twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous friends.

She is preceded in death by her fiancé and longtime partner Raymond Valdez; one daughter, Carolyn Welch; parents, Bert and Helen Gilboe.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Deacon Michael Halas officiating. Followed by a private cremation. Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Tukey was a native of Chicago and has lived in Hammond for over 40 years. She made many friends while she worked at Buckets Place Lounge for 15 years. Tukey enjoyed vacations, shopping, sitting outside in the sun, listening to music, especially Elvis and taking walks. Her true passion was her family, she loved being with her daughters and grandchildren. Tukey was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
