James D. Albin, age 72, of Hammond passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 27, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Flotella (nee Steele); children: Christopher (Sarah) of Fort Wayne, Nicholas of Evansville, and Melissa (Tom) Ovanek of Hobart; grandchildren: Lea, Topher, Ethan and Molly Albin, Nicholas, Savannah and Dominick Albin, and Ella Ovanek; sister, Linda Volkman and brother, Gary Albin as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents: Kenneth and Dorothy (nee Demuth) Albin.
James was a longtime resident of the region but was born and raised in Niles, Michigan. He was a graduate of Brandywine High School Class of 1968. James was an Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam conflict where he was stationed in Germany. He retired after 41 years of work at the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad. In his free time, he loved being with his family and enjoyed NASCAR, attended several races and was a devoted fan. He also loved working on his drag racer, playing guitar and traveling. Jim was an avid gold hunter who built his own supplies and he was quite the handy man. He took great joy in cheering his grandchildren on in all their endeavors, from academics to athletics and everything in between. Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation service entrusted to Bocken Funeral Home, in accordance with Jim’s wishes no public services will be held.
