Michael Eugene Cookston, age 64 of Wheatfield  transitioned to the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

Michael is survived by his loving wife 31 years, Cindy D. Cookston (nee Brakley); two sisters: Connie Cookston-Davis and Janet (Jon) Colgrove; step-mother, Janice Cookston; step-daughter, Nikki Weaver Lukes; honorary son, Kevin Travis; several nieces, nephews and friends including his best bud, Russell Gardener; and three coon dogs, Piper, Red and Solo.

Michael is preceded in death by his nephew, Justin Davis; parents, Cleighton Eugene “Gene” (Sue D.) Cookston; paternal grandparents: Hubert Cleighton (Inzez) Cookston; maternal grandparents: Ray (Regina) Webb.

Friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, (Hessville) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with Pastor Adam Somers officiating private cremation will follow.

Mike was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Hammond, he was a 1977 graduate of Morton Senior High School.  Mike  was a terminal operator retired from NuStar after 24 years. He had this beautiful spirit about him and was a faithful member and Elder of Kankakee Valley Christian Church of Wheatfield. Mike absolutely loved hunting and was great at it, whether it was coon, turkey, deer, squirrel you name it, he hunted it.  He also was a member of the American Redbone Coonhound Association and the United Kennel Club.
