Virginia Ross was born January 27, 1937 in Silver Run, Alabama. She was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Eugene and Ollie Archie. Her parents and all but one sibling, Tinnie M. Anderson preceded her in death.
Virginia graduated from Cobbs High School in Anniston Alabama in 1955 and went on to graduate from University of Illinois in Chicago with a degree in Chemistry. She worked in the medical industry until she retired in 2006.
She met and married the love of her life, John W. Ross in 1957. They were married until his death in September 2011. To this union they were blessed with three children, Cheryl Ross-Perez of Hammond Indiana, Jacqueline Ross of Clayton, Ohio and Anthony Ross of Englewood, Ohio.
Virginia was baptized at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Silver Run Alabama and later converted and baptized at Chatham Avalon Church of Christ; Where she was a faithful member until she was called home.
She enjoyed signing in the choral group, assisting her daughter with community plays, bowling, and a nice competitive game of Bid Whist.
Her favorite pastime was encouraging young people and counseling people with chemical dependency. Virginia was mostly known for helping young people to continue pursuing their education.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Cheryl Ross-Perez and Jacqueline Ross-Ross and son Anthony Ross (Tonya Ross); Grand Children, Eric, Maia, Jordan and Morgan; one Sister Tinnie Anderson, two cousins Janice and Oscar Walker (who were like her niece and nephew) along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.Preceded in death by one granddaughter, Gabriel.
Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. with a celebration of life to take place at 1 p.m. with Reginald Halbert minister, officiating and will be viewable via livestream at www.bockenfunerals.com below her obituary at 1 p.m. and recorded for later viewing. Private cremation to follow. Face mask will be required and the family wish is to keep the gathering to 50 people or less at any one time.
